Switching Instagram accounts: find the right saved result

UnfollowTracker loads the latest complete result for the account detected in its connected Instagram tab. When the panel detects a different account, it clears the previous list and looks for that account’s result. Switching accounts does not automatically start a scan or merge the lists.

Two accounts, two separate results

Fictional example: you scanned photo_account on Monday and studio_account on Tuesday in the same extension installation. When you return to photo_account on Instagram and the panel recognizes that session, it loads Monday’s result. Tuesday’s scan belongs to studio_account; it does not make photo_account’s result any newer.

If no complete result is saved for the detected account, the panel must not show the other account’s list instead. The account-switch test checks that the old rows and loaded result are cleared.

Find the list you meant to open

The panel connects to an Instagram tab in its browser window. If its previously connected tab is still present, it takes priority: activating another Instagram tab does not guarantee that the panel changes its source tab. Use a single Instagram tab in that window to avoid ambiguity.

After changing sessions, let the page finish loading and return to the panel. It rechecks the connection when focus returns and in response to tab events, among other checks. Rows still visible during a transition should not be read as a new comparison.

  1. Check on Instagram that you are signed in to the account whose results you want.
  2. Keep its Instagram tab open in the same window as the panel; close other Instagram tabs in that window after any running scan has finished.
  3. Reopen the panel if needed, then check the relevant account and latest complete scan date.
  4. If no result exists or you want a fresh list, start a scan manually and keep the signed-in tab open.

An older result can still be the right one

Returning to an account does not refresh its scan. The displayed date belongs to the saved result, not the session switch or an unfollow event. An empty list after a complete scan can be valid; having no saved result does not mean everyone follows you back.

Results stay in local storage for this extension installation. UnfollowTracker does not sync them across devices or browser profiles. Removing the extension clears its local storage, as documented by Chrome.

Check the account before exporting or deleting

The JSON export copies the loaded result. Its account field contains the saved username when available, otherwise the account ID; lastScan gives the scan date. Both accounts can produce the same suggested filename if exported on the same day, so the filename alone cannot identify the list.

“Delete saved scans” applies to all accounts stored by the extension, not just the currently connected account. It does not delete JSON files already downloaded. Keep any copies you need separately and check their account field.

The extension compares current relationships at scan time, without an unfollow history. Its Chrome Web Store publication is still being prepared.
