Instagram JSON export: read and keep your UnfollowTracker results
“Export” downloads a JSON file of accounts that do not follow you back in the loaded result. It includes scan and export timestamps, the scanned account, and each listed profile’s username, display name and link. The file is a separate copy from scans stored in the extension.

Exactly what the file contains
The suggested filename is unfollowers-YYYY-MM-DD.json. Despite “unfollowers” in the name, these are non-reciprocal accounts: the file does not prove that anyone followed you previously. The filename date uses UTC, so it may differ from your local date near midnight.
- exportDate: the download timestamp, in ISO format using UTC.
- lastScan: the scan timestamp associated with the result, in the same format. It can be earlier than exportDate.
- account: the scanned account’s username if available in the result, otherwise its account ID.
- unfollowersCount: the number of exported entries.
- unfollowers: a list of objects with username, fullName (display name) and profileUrl (Instagram link).

Export the loaded list, even with a search active
Export uses the entire loaded result list, including entries hidden by search or beyond the visible rows. Searching for one username in ten results still exports all ten entries. The export button is disabled when the non-reciprocal list is empty.
The file does not include the full follower and following lists, their totals, photos or the individual IDs of listed profiles. It contains no password or cookie.
- Check the scanned account and the latest complete scan date in the panel.
- Click “Export” and locate the file in your browser’s downloads.
- Open a copy in a text editor to read its fields without changing the original.

Read a fictional example
JSON is structured text: braces group fields and brackets contain a list. The following example uses no real account data.
Fictional example: {"exportDate":"2026-10-05T18:15:00.000Z","lastScan":"2026-10-05T18:00:00.000Z","account":"example_account","unfollowersCount":1,"unfollowers":[{"username":"fictional_profile","fullName":"Fictional Profile","profileUrl":"https://www.instagram.com/fictional_profile/"}]}
Here, the download happens fifteen minutes after the scan. The single entry represents a non-reciprocal account in that result; 18:15 is not the time of an unfollow. The Z suffix means UTC. Check lastScan against the result date you intended to keep.

Where does the data stay after export?
The browser creates the file without sending this list to an UnfollowTracker server. Your browser handles the destination; use its download history to find the chosen folder. If you choose a folder synced by a cloud service, that syncing follows your own settings.
The latest complete scan remains separately in local extension storage. “Delete saved scans” removes scans kept by the extension but does not delete files you already downloaded. To remove the JSON copy, delete it from its folder and from any other copies you created.

Keeping a copy does not refresh the results
The JSON does not update when your Instagram relationships change. A new scan can produce a new list; an interrupted scan leaves the latest complete result available. Check lastScan before relying on an older export.
This version does not import this JSON or the official Instagram archive, and does not compare files to build an unfollow history. Avoid uploading the list to an online tool if you want to keep it on your device. The extension’s Chrome Web Store publication is still being prepared.
